Well built, love the flat sides so that pencil doesn’t role.

So I have big fat hands that have both had carpal tunnel surgery a year ago. My dexterity is fine but skinny little pencils don’t do it for me. I use three mechanical pencils:
    1. An Uni Kuru Toga, for fine work. The best part of this pencil is that it’s metal and somewhat heavy with a great eraser.
    2. A Pica-Dry Longlife, which I use for carpentry, the little holster is sweet.
    3. This Rite-in-the-Rain 1.3, which I use for everything else.

I really really like this pencil, it’s generally comfortable , lays down a nice line on about anything (I use it for marking eggs for incubation a lot), and has a nice clip that rides well in a pocket. Replacement leads and erasers are cheap.

My dislikes, which I think are unique to me:
I wish it had a bigger barrel and was heavier. It doesn’t feel flimsy exactly but it’s not super ergonomic for big hands. The erasers do a great job erasing but they aren’t tight enough in the cup that holds them, I’ve repeatedly had the pencil in my pocket with the clip and had the eraser come out of the cup. I don’t like putting sharp things in chest pockets because I work a lot in the mud, but when I have to I use the Pica-Dry because of the holster.

All in all this is a great pickup. It lets me help my kids with homework and write whatever needs written.

Had to take a math course and was tired of my hand cramping from the usual mechanical pencils. It is larger to be certain but not huge. I would say 50% larger circumference than a standard mechanical.

The larger lead also seems to have helped with my god awful handwriting as well. I was actually able to read my equations and notes for the class! The eraser is exceptional as well and will leave little to no lead on the paper (I have almost used the whole thing with the class…).

The lead also works incredibly well on smooth lumber. Would recommend for anyone who has hand cramps with smaller pencils.

Great work pencil. Light and comfortable to use. There is a brass clutch holding the lead like other Rite in the Rain products. Triangular design is comfortable, provides a confident grip for layout work using squares or rulers and prevents rolling. The HB Medium lead is a little light, but it seems to break less often when used with a layout square or along a straight edge.

Would also make a great option for outdoor use, vehicle or bug out bag.

I prefer the 13 series for extended writing, but for work the 15 is my go-to.

I prefer the 15 series for extended use when writing.

I love the weight and feel of this pencil. Only thing is I wish there was a way to keep the led pointy. But that’s just a dream lol. I used mine a lot and even 1 stick of led lasted me a long time. Very high quality!

I love the mechanical pencil but the eraser falls out way too easily; the friction fit could be much improved. As soon as the eraser falls out the lead is free to fall out so unless you find where the eraser fell or have extra erasers on hand, you’d be better off getting something else. Of course, being mindful of the eraser would go a long way but given that it’s a heavy duty work pencil I would rather not have to pay extra attention to the eraser. You can do better rite in the rain.

Always liked mechanical pencils but preferred the thickness of a wooden. This is great!

I work outside…Rain, wind, snow whatever…11 hrs a day and I cant remember everything…I use these as my “Analog Memory” The first batch was stretched for 1 year before they were replaced with these, fingers crossed. Pencil erases ok, a bit difficult to write on when wet but it survives.

I never liked mechanical pencils because the lead always seemed flimsy and would break with the slightest pressure. But the Rite in the Rain Weatherproof Mechanical Pencil has completely changed my perspective. The 1.3mm dark lead is impressively thick and durable, with a robust design that ensures it doesn’t break easily.

This pencil is the perfect addition to my everyday carry and has quickly become my go-to writing tool. I bought it for school, and it has exceeded all my expectations. The build quality is outstanding—despite being plastic, it feels extremely high-quality and durable.

The pencil is weatherproof, making it ideal for various conditions, and the included 12 lead refills (No. BK15) ensure I’m always prepared. I’m so impressed that I’m tempted to buy another one in yellow just for the fun of it.

Overall, this is the only pencil you’ll ever need. It’s reliable, sturdy, and performs exceptionally well. Highly recommended!

Rugged, just what I was looking for. I work in a warehouse freezer, and need to write with pencils because pens and markers just freeze and stop writing. So this is exactly what I was looking for. Its working awesome. I have tried others but they always have weak parts not all of it is rugged, but this is.
