Tom Dixon –
An older book, but relevant. Gunsmithing as it was back in 1940, and still relevant today for those of you who appreciate the old methods. They work as well now, albeit a little slower, but they work. A good historical read or a challenge for those who like to try things old school. It has a prominent place on the shelf in our shop.

I’m about to sound like the mos illiterate fool ever, but I have to write this anyway.
This book is certainly and “advanced” book. I wanted a book for a loved one to learn about this art, and I thought to buy a comprehensive book rather than fluff. That was a mistake on my part.
There are very few pictures (I cringe even writing this), so newbies will struggle with this. That’s not to say it isn’t excellent. It is. However, if you are just getting started, you may want to save this one for when you are truly advanced, as the title implies!

Not that advanced but good.

Very good

Con este libro uno puede repararse él mismo su escopeta y además aprender mucha mecànica casera. Es un buen manual, recomendable

This book is dated from around the 1940s. A lot of information is out of date, whole sections are filled with now useless data on where to buy components or machines to use. Some of the actual gunsmithing bits (like changing a barrel on a rifle) still seem to mostly apply. If you’re looking to get started working on firearms this probably isn’t the book you need.

Bem básico para os dias atuais mais bem bom recomendo a todos que querem ser mecanicos de armas ou ter uma idéia
Michele Wecker –
In preparation for keeping his guns in tiptop shape, this book has loads of information on learning the subject of gunsmithing. Will help to fine-tune your technique
Michael P. Thompson –
A lot of good information that is easy to get to.

Bought it for my husband, who owns a library of gun books! He says some material is a bit dated, but provides interesting information on past techniques used by gunsmiths. Well written, too.

Kind of a hard read. However, the farther I read the more fascinating it was. Not a guide for contemporary home gunsmiths, but it was well worth reading for the ingenious solutions to repair or modification problems in a time when simply buying parts, tools, or accessories was not a realistic option.
Gregory P. Kretchmer –
This book presents detailed information on operations working metal in firearms. It is dated, but it is a good start. Not all skills are covered, but includes references to more dated books, some which are very hard to find now. It has enough info get an idea what to search for with modern sources, like the internet to attempt a procedure. Learn the danger signs in each operation, this is no place for lazy.

It’s forgotten knowledge like this that needs to be preserved! Great book!
