Great reference book
PapaG –
He knows his stuff. What I like is that he is not saying this is the only way/supplies, but he tells what works for him, and gives very explicit info on the precise products he uses and why they are his preference.
George F. Munford –
This book is very well written as it breaks down the process of building a survival kit into components and then shows how to combine these into what ever type of kit you need. There are comparisons of products and listings of sources which is really appreciated. You will not be disappointed.

The book is a great idea. The quality of the pictures and print is very poor. You cant clearly see what the items and contents of the kit the quality is that bad.
. The items that you need to build the kits are referenced to a web page that does not exist anymore. So even if you bought the book you build the kits because its so basic and lacking in information. You buy the book to get access to a web address that does not exist to complete the book. What a waste of time and money. I hate peple who publish a book and then dont have the decency to put content in a book that you paid for and want to read. I dont buy books to look at web pages that dont exist. If you need to build a survival kit more information is available on youtube and other web pages. This book is total waste of paper and is totally crap.

The 2nd edition builds on the very capable shoulders of the 1st edition. Whatever sort of complete setup you’re looking to put together, this book covers everything you’ll need.

More for the USA market ,advice is to take more information in your brain and less kit ..Its lighter !

The best books written about survival kits, from simple to complex from small to large kits. I built my first survival kit when I was in High School, that was around 1969 when 3 of my friends and me decided to climb Bear Mountain in NY State straight up, and we did. I have been building first aid kits ever since for myself and I am 67 years old. John has put a lot of experience and common sense into his book, and written at a level that anyone can understand. With the help of this book you can build a survival kit customized to your own needs, and if you ever have to use it along with some common it may save your life.

Great resource book. Great start for putting together specialized custom kits. Just make sure you become familiar with using all the components you choose.

Extremely detailed information on many products, and ideas for mini, small, medium and large kits. The author has tried everything himself before recommending things. Very helpful!

I’ve been an outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, pilot and backpacker and never needed an emergency survival kit. Not yet, anyway. But all this time I have thought about such necessities and circumstances. This book is the ultimate and very thoughtful, intelligent and useful account of survival kits. I have loaned my hard copy to friends and have a copy of this book on my kindle. It is excellent and I recommend it to all who might, conceivably, have a use some day for such knowledge. That happens to be all of us.

I wondered how you could write an entire book about putting a PSK together, but after receiving the book, now I know. John goes into detail on all the most important gear one would put in a kit and also describes several versions of each as well as containers for the kits. He also has several lists of survival kits of different sizes plus a lot of other good info on gear and kits. As an experienced outdoorsman and survivalist, I already have knowledge of kits and gear but I still found the book very interesting and I even go back and re-read certain sections again to refresh my memory. I got the book at a discount and received it promptly. Not a bad idea for anyone interested in making a PSK to buy one of these books.
