Jonathan Hollerman does a great job of teaching basic survival skills while also telling a fascinating and fast paced story in this new book. Some readers who already know all this stuff may be annoyed by such things as Sean’s seemingly long-winded survival monologue early on where he addresses his coworkers at Speednet, but I found myself wanting to take notes. This was a lecture that could have been labelled Survival 101. The author is very skilled at taking sometimes complex survival concepts and breaking them down into bite-sized nuggets. For example, I found the description of Sean and Maria’s trek to the family farm to be portrayed very realistically, and I found myself with goosebumps thinking about making such a trip. The author explains why Sean does the things he does, and I defintely found myself learning from his writing. I will also admit I did find myself second guessing some of Sean’s decisions, as we often do when reading a really good book, but the information imparted by the author remained fascinating and useful throughout the story.
One of the best points to this book is the unpredictable plot, where the author seemed to delight in placing the reader into positions where you want to say, “Okay, now what are we going to do?” As for the action fans, you get plenty here, but it is realistic and scary. Not every confrontation turns into a firefight, and not every firefight is preceeded by a confrontation. Here again we see the author being unpredictable, which is frightening when you think about how realistic he keeps the storyline. No, those aren’t fantasy zombies trying to kill Sean and Maria, they are simply neighbors who are trying to feed their starving children.
Another point in the author’s favor is he actually gives us an ending. Yes, the story is wide open for a sequel (hint, hint, Mr. Hollerman) but we are not left with a cliffhanger, damsel in distress stinger at the last minute.

This book is a ‘real account’ of what will happen if the inevitable does occur, the only question to ask is- when? Fast paced and draws the reader in to where it is hard to put the book down (after the intro to the main character that is) I loved it and I am inspired to be better prepared for anything. Read it like a novel-Live it like your life depends on it.

As good as Patriots in structure, a good mixture of drama and advertising/product recommendations.

Fast-paced read, excellent character development, good plot! I didn’t think I’d be too interested in it, but sent for a sample. By the time I finished the sample, I was hooked, ordered it, and just about couldn’t put it down (which is not usual for me.). Has some good lessons sprinkled throughout — many I knew from other reading, and others were new. His emphasis on the timeline and essential actions immediately after a large scale disaster will be very useful for those not familiar with this. I’ll be ordering the other volumes shortly! Well written, and a fun and excited read! 2 thumbs up!! 😃

Jonathan Hollerman’s 351-page effort is a novel that laid out a fast-paced narrative combined with many well-planned insertions of PA explanations of what he was doing, and why. One of the problems in writing about survivalists is a balance of not talking down to knowledgeable readers and at the same time, suggesting real life instruction to readers who may not be quit so experienced.
In the fairly early going, I was afraid I wasn’t going to like this book. Way, way to many moving parts as he advised us that there would be 26 adults and 8 children at the compound and threw a flurry of names at the reader who reasonably might think that they were going to have to commit all them to memory.
As I was reading page 290, I casually looked to the back of the book to see how far I was to the end. There, I saw a list of the characters. Bummer. That feature needed to be in the front. Sadly, Beth Ann, a critical character in the book, failed to make the cut. and was not on the character list.
I had a couple of infantry tactical issues and, as others have noted, a serious lack of editing, but let’s don’t whine any more.
The book was a hard-hitting, creative character developing, fast passed novel, and very well done I thought for his first trip out. I look forward to more of his work. Suggest APOC Publishing does not allow another book of Hollerman’s out the door without professional editing.
I liked the book and give a strong 4.7 effort.

Jonathan Hollerman supplies much useful information on how to survive an event that all humankind had better hope never occurs. It is clear that if you have not prepared in the manner he suggests then your chances of survival are slim to say the least.
Anybody either preparing or thinking about preparing for an EMP or solar flare would do well to read this book.

This is a book that makes you think !. A very good idea to introduce a story into a manual, that has scenarios that are the type of situation that may be encountered. This book gives you some very good tips on what to expect, what to get ready, and ideas on how to react. All in all a very good manual. Apart from its informative content, I hope another comes out just because its a good read, Well done.
