When you look at camping gear, EVERYBODY has an opinion. This is mine. First I owned the UCO small container of storm matches. Right off I hated the the striker was outside the plastic waterproof container. Hard to strike a match when the card board striker gets wet. I kept extra strikers inside but that meant I had to open those as well as get the matches.
So then comes Zippo. Nice design but larger. The striker is fully covered and waterproof. That is a big deal to me. Now UCO has a larger container like the Zippo, but the striker is still outside the container. For simplicity, I like a storm match to start a fire with and extra fire helper that has wax. I think the one I bought was quickfire. Basically, they are very little packets of wax. Light the storm match, put the wax pack on top and you will get a fire even when the wood is wet.
So, I use this for camping and not a bugout bag. What the Zippo container gives me is the option to bring like 10 matches and use the rest of the container for the wax packs as well as some small pieces of pine heartwood. So instead of a bag of stuff, I just pick up the Zippo and I am ready.

I like UCO Titan stormproof matches a bit over Zippo because the wood is treated and they were easier to strike on rock. However, neither match laying sideways on a rock caught the match wood on fire. These are harder to strike than UCO Titans. Strikers are included, but these are strike anywhere matches. The storage case is much larger diameter and heavier duty than your standard orange cylinder, so it’s bulkier and heavier. Worthwhile trade-offs I’d say. It has lanyard attachment point (important) and sealed striking surface with spare strikers. Striker cover is attached to the body. You could string the lid to the striker cover attachment to ensure keeping the whole thing together. Plenty of burn time and they can be the basis for an emergency super-match when you need to get a fire going quick fast and in a hurry. Mine burned over 5 minutes with 2 matches, wood from fireplace matches, and gauze dipped in paraffin. Make a pull tab of masking tape and wrap the heads to prevent them getting covered in paraffin. Since the match wood didn’t burn, I’ll just cut it off shorter next evolution. I think the value of this product over UCO Titan is the case. Both are good stormproof matches IMO. I didn’t try the dunk it in water test to see if it relights on its own or prestriking immersion yet.

Bought this alongside the mag spark and the emergency fire kit, being disappointing in those two products I wasn’t expecting much when it came time to play with this one. Started the first strike and had a nice large hot flame on it, could even start the wax rolls from the emergency kit that a lighter had problems with. Due to them being so large I was skeptical that a full case would float and tried it out, was pleased to see that not only did it float but the exterior striker was protected from the water by its cap, making it a better case than what the Uco Titan system is shipped with. The striker itself actually very similar to what is on the side of a box of Diamond Matches that you would get from the store, meaning it will strike regular matches well. Inside of the case it is spacious enough to fit all 15 typhoon matches with the plastic bag on them and have the desiccant gel packet in the bottom.

Nice and water tight. Tried it out and it works well. Just the thing for a backup fire starter.

Finding The Best Survival Matches Because Not All Matches Are Created Equal

If a dog is man’s best friend, fire is surely his best survival tool.

According to archaeologists, we’ve been using fire for over a million years.

We cook with it, hunt with it, and stay warm on countless nights because of it.

There’s no telling where humanity would be today without the discovery of fire.

But it’s safe to say; our survival would have been a lot harder.

Today, fire remains and will always remain an essential survival resource.

No survival backpack, bug out bag, get home bag or survival vehicle is complete without some fire tools.

Whether it’s a survival lighter, a flint striker, matches – creating fire is an essential life-saving survival skill.

Without it, things can get dark and cold quickly.
And there are few fire tools as time-tested as the match. They’re simple and effective.

But there are a lot of matches, made by a lot of manufacturers and designed for different uses.

Yes, they all produce fire, but some are far more reliable for survival than others. So how does one choose?

YOU LISTEN TO ME AND BUY THESE!!

These matches are huge, they burn very hot, and long enough to ignite my tinder in trying conditions. Plus, the striker (an essential part for ignition) is protected as well! You can rely on these firing up, even if you capsize your canoe, and it escapes downstream while you are trying to catch your paddle. LoL! So, cast your fate to the wind (and hope the canoe will beach itself downstream), stop and start a fire, get warm, dry out, talk to the bow person about maintaining balance; then later, search for the errant conveyance. Keep these burners with you!

So far Im impressed with this setup. Case protects matches well and matches are very large and thick. Bottom cap protects striker and comes with a spare as well. This thing is much larger than I was expecting. I bought two to put in vehicle glove boxes. I have not tested it during a typhoon but it appears to be water proof.
